PIN

Modular Furniture System

Fall 2022

PIN is a modular furniture system designed to fit into a compact living space, addressing the urban lifestyle of young adults from 18 to 25. Young adults who live in urban areas tend to move frequently due to changes happening in school or career. Bulky and expensive furnitures become burdens when they move. Based on the frequently moving demand of the user group, PIN is a series of modules that are affordable, multifunctional, and ready-to-assemble.

Meet Olivia, Our User

Extensive amount of money and effort spent in moving

Like many other young adults, Olivia shares an apartment with two other roommates to save up on rent. Such compact living space made buying furniture harder for Olivia. She prefers smaller and modular furnitures.

Olivia’s Annual Furniture-buying Routine

Olivia’s wasteful lifestyle not only makes her spend more money and physical effort in buying and moving furnitures, but also causes burden for the environment. Under such lifestyle, functional furnitures would quickly end up in landfills.

Two Main Problems
